The Scion brand has just about seen its last days, but that doesn’t mean its models are getting the boot. Several vehicles under the nameplate have been re-branded as Toyotas, including the Scion FR-S, which will be known from here on out as the Toyota 86. Back in action for 2017, the new model gets a fresh design, performance upgrades, interior modifications and other slight tweaks that will have fans looking at the rear-wheel drive sports car in a whole new light.

You’ll quickly spot a few changes on the 2017 Toyota 86 when it arrives at Camelback Toyota later this year. Its exterior is more aggressive than ever, sporting a large center intake, LED front headlights, daylight running lamps and turn signals, as well as a new bumper, fog lamp bezel, alloy wheels with a twisted spoke design and 86 badges. The interior also reveals new soft-touch materials on the door trim, silver stitching on the seats, an updated steering wheel with audio controls and additional 86 badging.

The car’s suspension tuning has also been altered to improve driving dynamics, giving drivers better control over the vehicle. Situated under the hood is a 2.0L aluminum boxer engine that has its own set of modifications – it now outputs 205 horsepower and 156 lb.-ft. of torque when equipped with the standard six-speed manual transmission. The automatic brings it down to 200 horsepower and 151 lb.-ft. of torque.

Along with these changes, the Toyota 86 also comes with the automaker's STAR Safety System for added security and a wide range of technologies, including Bluetooth, an 8-speaker Pioneer stereo system, HD Radio and optional Display Audio with Navigation. You’ll have the chance to check out each of these features and more when the 2017 Toyota 86 officially lands in Phoenix.
