When you purchase a new vehicle, it's not just about its reliability or safety features. It's about which Toyota can get you to your destination the fastest. There's nothing more fun than participating in a race as a car enthusiast. But what kind of car should you choose? What kind of tires gives the best grip? Which Toyota models were the fastest?
Getting an answer to this question will depend on defining "fastest." Looking at 0-60 performance is probably the easiest way to narrow it down. The Camry has the quickest 0-60 acceleration (6.4 seconds), but even the Corolla does the deed in 8.1 seconds. That leaves the Highlander Hybrid, 4Runner, Avalon and Sienna. The Highlander Hybrid and Avalon are nearly identical with their 7.2 and 7.3-second sprints, followed by the Sienna at around 8 seconds flat - which, if we're being honest, isn't all that noteworthy of a difference compared to similar-sized cars. The 4Runner rounds out this list with a rather mundane 10.9-second quarter-mile run time in off-road trim (10 seconds flat in FWD / 8 seconds flat in 4WD).
The Toyota Supra was one of the fastest cars ever made, with a top speed of 160 mph and a 0 to 60 time of 4.6 seconds. However, many other Toyota models can go from 0 to 60 mph in less than four seconds. In March of this year, a 2005 Toyota Camry became the fastest accelerating production car ever, hitting 60 mph in just 3.85 seconds. The Supra was discontinued in 2002, but many used models are still for sale today.
How did the Camry manage to break the record? It is lighter than most other cars and has a powerful V6 engine and rear-wheel drive, which gives it superior handling. The Camry's driver put down 1,000 foot-pounds of torque at 2,800 rpm, which is more powerful than most other sport sedans have at peak torque.
