Toyota took advantage of the virtual reality craze in its debut of the all-new 2017 Toyota Prius Prime at the 2016 TechCrunch Disrupt Conference in San Francisco. Toyota offered attendees their first drive of the future-focused Prius Prime through an innovative virtual reality event called “The Impossible Quest.”

Test drivers began by creating their own 3D visual art in the “Prius Prime Studio.” Here, they developed their own unique piece that would appear inside the actual test drive for a more personalized experience. Once finished, they put on the virtual reality goggles and entered an exciting futuristic world filled with twists and turns that showed off the Prime's many features. The VR function worked in tandem with a real moving wheel and driver’s seat, complete with a seat belt, for a fully immersive experience.

To create the “The Impossible Quest” world you see in the video above, Toyota enlisted the help of Syd Mead, the visual futurist who worked on futuristic film favorites like “Tron,” “Blade Runner” and “Alien.” The developers also looked to Jason Zada, the Emmy-award winning director of “The Forest,” for help creating the story. Toyota wanted the experience to be as thrilling and innovative as the Prius Prime itself, which takes hybrid technology and user amenities to a whole new level.

The 2017 Prius Prime will hit the market later this fall. For more information on this advanced hybrid or on any of our other Prius models, visit our dealership located along the Camelback Corridor today!
