You may be driving your car on the road when it suddenly starts to shake, which can make it hard to steer and control. Unfortunately, the cause of the problem isn't always easy to pinpoint. There are many causes of the car shaking that are listed below to review. A proper diagnosis with a certified technician is necessary to determine what repairs are necessary.

Damaged Axles

It can be easy to forget that the axles may be causing the car to shake because they're hard to see under the vehicle. Often, the axles can become damaged if you run over a large object while driving or get into a minor accident. If the axles aren't in good shape, they can prevent the wheels from feeling stable. You may find it difficult to control the car's steering, and the wheels may feel wobbly.

Brake Issues

Your brakes can also make the car shake every time you try to slow down or come to a complete stop. You may forget to replace the brakes at a good time, which can cause them to become worn down and prevent them from having enough strength to stop the vehicle. Check the brake pads to determine if it's time to replace them, often every 50,000 miles. The front brake pads usually wear down quicker than the back because they bear the car's weight each time they slow down.

Engine Problems

Check under the hood for issues that may be present with some parts, which often cause the vehicle to shake at random times. Take a look at the connections on the spark plugs to determine everything is in good shape. The spark plugs need to be replaced every 80,000 to 100,000 miles.

The air filter is another part to inspect, which can become dirty and clogged up with grime. If the filter isn't replaced, it can prevent enough air from reaching the engine, which can cause the vehicle to shake as the engine runs.

Damaged Wheels

The wheels are another part of the vehicle that needs attention if the car shakes. When the tires are out of balance or are leaking air, it can affect how smooth the car drives. Check the PSI to determine if you need to add more air.

A few parts on the wheels may also need to be tightened or replaced. Hire a technician to inspect the tie rod ends, ball joints, and wheel bearings. The wheels may be the cause of the vehicle feeling wobbly and having hard-to-control steering.
