Image: Toyota Invests in EV Charging Network IONNA to Increase Charging Access for Customers

This summer, Toyota announced that they have invested in the EV charging network IONNA to support the building of a high-powered charging network for battery electric vehicles across North America. Toyota is one of seven automobile manufacturers investing in IONNA in a bid to make charging stations more accessible to electric vehicle owners.

The current plan is for IONNA to install at least 30,000 charging ports across North America by 2030. These charging stations will include connectors for NACS and CCS connectors to support all BEVs. IONNA's first batch of DC fast-charging stations will be installed this year, with more to follow across the country.

This is an important step in Toyota's commitment to BEVs. The automaker currently has two BEVs on the market: the Toyota bZ4X and the Lexus RZ. Toyota also has plans to roll out two three-row BEV SUVs very soon, and they plan to offer 30 BEV models across its Toyota and Lexus brand nameplates by 2030.

Toyota is only the latest automobile manufacturer to put its support behind IONNA. BMW, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, and Stellantis have also pledged support to the charging network.

With this kind of support thrown behind IONNA and other efforts to make EV charging stations more accessible, electric vehicles can only stand to grow in popularity.
