Toyota All Wheel Drive Vs. Four Wheel Drive

Ā

Many vehicles available today come with a wide range of features. You can choose between AWD/4WD depending on what model of vehicle you're considering. They are not the same thing. Even though it can be difficult to distinguish the differences, we will discuss them to make an educated decision about the vehicle that is right for your needs.

What is All-Wheel Drive exactly?

All-wheel drives mean that the powertrain powers both front and rear wheels. A full-time AWD option will move all four of the wheels continuously. A part-time system operates in its 2-wheel drive mode for most of its life but occasionally switches to AWD for better traction.

AWD is automatic and does not require the driver to activate the system. However, there are some models on the marketplace that offer greater control options. The torque will be delivered to the wheels by a series of differentials.

What is Four-Wheel Drive?

Four-wheel drive can be found on larger vehicles such as SUVs or trucks. It uses a pair of differentials in each front, middle, and rear to transfer power to all four wheels.

4WD technology will send torque as needed to all wheels on your vehicle. It also comes in full-time and partial-time modes, just like AWD. You can also choose between high or low speeds while driving. A lever or an electronic switch often does this. Your low setting will achieve the highest level, while the high setting is best for roads surfaces that are slightly slick such as sand or snow.
