What's New for 2018 Toyota Avalon?

The 2019 model year is bringing about a total overhaul of the Avalon, the flagship sedan from Toyota. This year's model brings a striking new exterior, interior refinement, more power, more efficiency, and a bit of attitude.

Under the hood, the upgraded new V6 engine brings 33 more horsepower than the front-wheel-drive 2018 model. On the inside, there are more soft-touch surfaces, upgraded display screens, more modern (and comfortable) front seats, and a redesigned, more intuitive, center stack. Integration for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is now standard - including smartwatch capabilities.

You can explore all of these new features at our Phoenix dealership.

Is Technology at the Forefront for 2019?

At the entry level, the Avalon XLE comes with a 9-in touch screen, Apple CarPlay connectivity, and a blind spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert. The XSE package brings genuine aluminum interior trim, paddle shifters, and a moonroof.

For the performance-minded, the Touring model has adaptive variable suspension, premium audio, a rear spoiler, LED headlights, and engine sound enhancement. The limited package brings more luxury with heated and ventilated front seats, 18-inch super chrome alloy wheels, and genuine wood interior trim. A 10-inch heads-up LCD display is also available. With the exception of the touring package, each trim level is available in the hybrid version.

Which Engines are Under the Hood of the Avalon?

2019 Toyota AvalonTwo powerful engine options are available for the 2019 Avalon. The non-hybrid option is a 3.5-liter automatic V6. The transmission is a direct shift electronically controlled 8-speed with Sequential Shiftmatic Mode. 301 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque - powered by advanced direct and port injection technology - make this engine an improvement over last year's model. In fact, the new V6 is the most efficient Avalon engine ever, excluding hybrids. It's certified as an Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV-II).

This year's hybrid engine is impressive, too. It's a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder electronically controlled continuously variable transmission with Sequential Shiftmatic Mode, cranking out 176 horsepower at 5700 rpm. It's certified as a Super Low Emission Vehicle (SULEV).

Safety Technology Continues to Improve for 2019

2019 Toyota AvalonStandard on all models is the Star Safety System, which includes Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control, 4-wheel Anti-lock Brake System, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Brake Assist, and Smart Stop Technology. Ten airbags are included, as well as whiplash-injury-lessening seats for driver and passenger.

A tire-pressure-monitoring system is standard, as is Safety Connect, which features emergency assistance features, and Safety Sense, which is an advanced collision prevention suite including lane departure alert and steering assist.

Other safety features include hill start assist, an anti-theft system with alarm and engine immobilizer, and ToyotaCare - a no-cost maintenance plan with free roadside assistance. An advanced safety package is also available.
