What's New For the 2019 Toyota Prius?

There are a few changes to the 2019 line of Toyota Prius vehicles, the most notable of which being that there's now an all-wheel-drive option. This option is billed as an AWD-e system, and these AWD-e Priuses have an additional induction motor directly connected to the rear axle that kicks into action as needed.

Other changes to the entire Prius line consist of cosmetic changes and additional custom options. The LED headlights and taillights are a bit sleeker, the bumpers have been redesigned for a slightly softer look, and there are new color (Supersonic Red and Electric Storm Blue) and wheel (15" alloy wheel) options. Inside the cabin, the 2019 models have black accents around the shifter, on the steering wheel, and on the center console cover. Additionally, anyone with a smartphone or device will appreciate the oversized Qi wireless charging tray.

The versions you have to choose from are the L Eco, the LE, XLE, and Limited. An AWD-e system is an option for the LE and XLE versions. The L Eco is a basic version, which does come with a 4.2" information display and vertical-oriented touchscreen. The AWD-e models come with a 6.1" touchscreen, three USB ports, and a six-speaker sound system. That screen jumps up in size significantly with the Limited version; these top-of-the-line cars have an 11.6" touchscreen system with integrated in-car navigation and a premium JBL audio system. Optional at this trim level is a heads-up display.

Other amenities that you can find on upgraded versions include heated steering wheels on the XLE and Limited models, Genuine Toyota Accessory cargo crossbars on the AWD-e models, and SofTex-trimmed and heated front seats on the AWD-e XLE. Standard on the Limited and available on the XLE is Adaptive Front Lighting. This system allows the headlights to adjust their beam depending on the turns that you make and the roads that you take.

Adaptive cruise control lets you stick to top speed and maintain an optimal distance to the car in front of you, even in bumper-to-bumper traffic, and forward-collision mitigation can alert you with visual and audio alerts if it seems as if you're about to hit an obstacle. In some situations, the car can automatically apply the brakes for you. Further, the Prius has a lane keeping assist system to prevent drifting as well as automatic high beams that can illuminate the road when the conditions call for it.
