A low profile makes getting in and out of a midsize sedan a breeze. Baggage squared away in its section makes any trip in a midsize sedan a breeze. The Toyota Camry has proven itself exceptional among midsize sedans with more than one way of outdoing the competition. Its latest way is through the 2020 Camry TRD, Toyota Racing Development, edition. To see what it and its siblings can offer, just check out the following.
Keeping commuters comfortable is the first goal of all Camry models, so 38.3 inches of headroom up front and 38 inches in the back are accompanied by 42.1 inches of front legroom and 38 inches in back. The newest 2020 Camry, the TRD edition, takes these basic dimensions and adds side aero skirts to lower drag and a pedestal spoiler over the trunk lid for improved road contact. Among the more established Camry models, the L fills these dimensions with unexpected opulence like a 7-inch touchscreen outfitted with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 6-speaker audio, a USB port, and air conditioning.
A 60/40 split back seat and two more USB ports define the Camry LE. Exterior enhancements like black rims, a black mesh grille, and optional V6 mark the sporty SE edition. The Camry experience becomes even more extravagant in the XLE and XSE models equipped with a 2.5-liter engine where dual climate control, leather trim, front in-seat heating, a CD player, a Qi wireless charger, LED headlights, and an 8-inch touchscreen are the norms. Choosing one of these models with a V6 engine means a JBL 9-speaker audio setup inside and a moonroof overhead. The hybrid LE, SE, and XLE offer the same luxuries as their standard twins but in a super-efficient form.
Having eight speeds available in an automatic transmission allows varying engine output to be more efficiently utilized. When the focus is on fuel savings, a 2.5-liter inline-4 block capable of 203 horsepower is partnered with this transmission to offer 29 mpg city and 41 mpg highway in the 2020 Camry L edition. When there are steeper hills to climb or heavier loads to contend with, 301 horsepower from a 3.5-liter V6 combine with this transmission for 22 mpg city and 32 mpg highway. In the hybrid LE, SE, and XLE models, an eCVT takes over from the standard transmission and works with a 2.5-liter I4 and 88 kW motor to deliver 208 horses, 44 mpg city, and 47 mpg highway.
The Camry's safety reputation continues in 2020, with the IIHS awarding it their top rating for all conducted tests while the NHTSA did likewise with its maximum 5-star score. Antilock brakes, traction and stability control, airbags, and a rearview camera make an already tough body that much safer. The commitment to safety moves into the future via Toyota Safety Sense installed in all Camry models. This technology identifies possible hazards ahead like pedestrians in the road and triggers braking in response. It can also spot lane deviations and put the vehicle back on the right path.
